The funeral with military honors will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home, Inc. 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City, with services by John Conforti, of the Jackson Street Baptist Church. Entombment, St. Mary’s Mausoleum, Dickson City. Friends may call Tuesday 5 to 7 p.m. A Masonic Service will be conducted Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Traditional Home Health and Hospice. William R. Owens, 89, of Dickson City, died Sunday morning November 22, 2015 at home with his niece Donna at his side. He was preceded in death by his wife the former Helen Surdick Owens, who died January 2, 2011.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late William and Beatrice Thomas Owens and he was a member of the Jackson Street Baptist Church, West Scranton. He was a graduate of West Scranton High School and he attended Wharton School of Business for two years. He had been employed by AMCPSCC, Endicott, NY and prior to retirement at Tobyhanna Army Depot. He served with the US Navy during World War II and he was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 11, American Legion Post 665 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5937 all of Dickson City and the LST Association. He also was a member of the Kingsbury F&AM Lodge # 466, Olyphant and Keystone Consistory, Scranton.

Bill’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Traditional Home Health and Hospice for all their love, care and compassion, especially Barb and Allison.

Surviving is a brother, Bruce Owens and wife, Marilyn, Scranton; sister in law, Maryann Surdick, Dickson City; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Owens and a sister, Janice Osborne.
