The funeral will be Thursday December 27 at 9 a.m. from the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home, Inc., 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City with mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary’s Visitation Church, Dickson City.  Interment with military honors will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dickson City.  Friends may call Wednesday December 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.  For directions or to leave an online condolence visit the funeral home website.

Walter Szewc Jr., 76, a lifelong Dickson City resident, died Thursday December 20, 2018 at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, after a brief illness.

Born in Peckville, he was the son of the late Walter Sr., and Anna Mesick Szewc, and he was a member of St. Mary’s Visitation Church, Dickson City.  Walter was a 1959 graduate of Dickson City High School, and upon graduation enlisted in the US Army, and he was stationed in Korea.  Walter also served with the 1st Battalion, 109th Infantry Regiment unit based in Northeast PA for over 20 years.  He was a member of American Legion Post 665, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5937, both of Dickson City.  Prior to retirement he was employed by Tobyhanna Army Depot as an electronics’ Technician.

Surviving are two daughters, Theresa Brightwell, and husband, Randall, Avoca, NY, and Joann Doran, and husband, Michael, Hillsgrove, PA; seven grandchildren, Rae Anne Prestridge, Brandon McCormick, Dillyn McCormick, Wyatt Prestridge, Alex Doran, Lindsey Doran, and Makenzie Doran; one great granddaughter, Milena; a brother, John Szewc, and wife Margaret, Grand Rapids, Iowa, nieces and nephews.
