The funeral will be Monday at 9 a.m. from the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home, Inc., 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City; with mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary’s Visitation Church, Dickson City, celebrated by Msgr. Patrick Pratico, Pastor.  Friends may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.  Interment, St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dickson City.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Suite 7, 600 Baltimore Drive, Wilkes Barre, PA 18702.  For directions or to leave an online condolence visit the funeral home website.

Sophie Stefursky, 94, a resident of St. Mary’s Villa Residence, Elmhurst and formally of Dickson City, died peacefully at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit, Dunmore, on Thursday, September 6, 2018.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Stefursky; he died June 8, 1993.

Born September 24, 1923, she was the daughter of the late John and Teophilia Peronicki Jarzynski, and she was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Visitation Church, Dickson City.  She was educated in Dickson City schools and she was a homemaker.

Sophie was a devoted mother, wife, and daughter who loved to travel with her late husband, play cards, cook, complete word and jigsaw puzzles, and scratch-off  lottery tickets.

Her family would like to express their thanks to the staff at St. Mary’s Residence who provided warm and wonderful care to Sophie and to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their compassionate kindness and outstanding care.

Surviving are her daughter, Andrea Oravec, Tobyhanna; a son, Thomas Stefursky, and wife, Tina, Archbald; granddaughters, Renee Haser, and husband, Gary, Dunmore, Lisa Paone, and husband, Jeff, Eynon, and Anne Lipko, and husband, Tom, Harrisburg; great grandchildren, P.J., Andy, Lucas, and Haley; a brother, Leonard Yazinski, Houston, TX; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son in law, Norman Oravec, grandson, Philip Andrew Oravec; a sister, Jean Bylinski; brothers, Stanley, Walter, Leo, Adam, Paul, Edward, and Chester.
