Mass of Christian Burial for Josephine will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Visitation Church, Dickson City.  Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dickson City.  There will be no public calling hours.  All those attending the funeral should go directly to the church.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary’s Visitation Church.

Josephine Pacanowski, 93, a resident of Allied Skilled Nursing Center, formerly of Justus, died peacefully in her sleep Thursday, May 11th. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Thomas F Sr., who passed in 1992.

Born and raised in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Nicolo and Veronica (Felicia) Giuliano Caruso. She was a member of St. Mary’s Visitation Church, Dickson City and attended school in Scranton.

Josephine was a homemaker and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend.  She was an avid reader and loved cooking and baking for her family, crossword puzzles, bingo and lottery tickets. Her family would like to thank the staff of Allied Skilled Nursing for their wonderful care, Dr. Michael Gilhooley and Dr. Tracey Galardi, and her daughter Susan, who was her caregiver.

Surviving are six children; daughters Dorothy A. Wywiorka, Scott Twp, Antoinette Botke and husband William, South Abington Twp, and Susan Ruane and husband Stephen, Scott Twp; sons, Thomas Jr. and wife Rose, Shamong, NJ, Frank and wife Kathleen, Greenfield Twp, and Stan and wife Susan, Greenfield Twp. Eleven grandchildren; Carla, Charles, Amy, T.G., Nicole, Brian, Karen, William, Deborah, Joseph, Kristina, eighteen great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also surviving is a sister, Catherine Spinola.

She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Charles Wywiorka, three brothers, Peter, Anthony, and Albert Caruso, and two sisters, Rose Marie Stewart and Dorothy (Gloria) Ocenas.
