The funeral will be Monday at 9 a.m. from the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home, Inc., 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City, with mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony’s Church, Throop.  Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.  Interment St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.  Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter or the Jewish Home of NE PA.  To leave an online condolence visit the funeral home website.

Josephine D. Burdyn, 87, of Throop, died Thursday morning April 20, 2017 at the Jewish Home of Northeast PA.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard E. Burdyn Sr.  He died March 17, 1989.

 

Born in Throop, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Helen Karpinski Gongliewski and she was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish at St. Anthony’s Church, Throop.  She was a graduate of Throop High School and Lackawanna Junior College.  She had been employed by the International Correspondence School and the Mid Valley School District.

 

She was a loving and caring mother whose main concern was caring for her family and friends.  She was a devout Catholic who was proud of her Polish heritage.  She was a very generous person who would help anyone in need and family values were important to her.  She will be deeply missed by her dog Punzek.

 

Her family would like to thank the nurses at Moses Taylor Hospital especially Bernice and Mary Margaret along with the  fourth floor nursing staff at the Jewish Home, the Therapy department especially Lisa for never giving up and her tireless efforts.

 

Surviving is a daughter, Joann Bissland and husband, Robert, Throop; numerous cousins.

 

She was preceded in death by a son, Lenny E. Burdyn Jr. and a  brother, Edward Gongliewski.
