Josephine Beckage, 97 of Dickson City, died Friday April 28, 2017 at St. Mary’s Villa, Elmhurst.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Edward Beckage who died November 30, 1998.

Born in Dickson City, she was the daughter of the late Casper and Mary Skarbek Marchines and she was a member of SS Cyril & Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church, Olyphant.  She was a graduate of St. Mary’s Parochial School, Dickson City and she worked in the garment industry and then became a homemaker where she still used her talents as a seamstress.  She was a member of the Mid Valley Senior Centers of Jessup and Throop where she enjoyed many hours with friends.

She was most proud to be a mother and will be dearly missed by her daughter.  Spending time together, whether in conversation or just quiet time was special and will leave a space in her daughter’s heart that will be impossible to fill.

She was very proud of her Polish heritage and had enjoyed dancing the polka as well as traveling to hear polka bands both locally and abroad.

For the past several years Josephine was a guest at St. Mary’s Villa where she enjoyed activities such as bingo, musical entertainment, especially polka bands and spending time outdoors.  A thank you to everyone on staff at St. Mary’s Villa for their care and support.  Especially to the nurses and aides on unit 33 who showed true tenderness, kindness and empathy to Josephine.  They will always have a special place in the heart of her daughter, Diane.

Surviving is a daughter, Diane Beckage, Dickson City and fiancé, Joseph Barber, Scranton; nieces, nephews as well as great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Stephania Rutkowski; a brother, Stephen Marchines and a niece Kathy Hayes.
