The funeral with military honors will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home, Inc., 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City with mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Visitation Church, Dickson City.  Friends may call Thursday 5 to 8 p.m.

Joseph F. Sparrow, 91, of Scott Twp., died Monday morning  April 4, 2016  at home.  He is survived by his wife of 66 years the former Eleanor Tranovich.

 

Born in Blakely, he was the son of the late Joseph and Catherine Zarnosky Sparrow and he was a member of St. Mary’s Visitation Church, Dickson City along with its Holy Name Society.  He was a 1942 graduate of Blakely High School and he served with the US Army during World War II.  He was a member of American Legion Post 665, Dickson City.  He was employed for over 40 years by Giant Markets as a manager and supervisor with the responsibility of opening many of their new locations.

 

Surviving are two daughters, Denise Corkill and husband, William, State College, PA and Alexa Brown, South Abington Twp.; a grandson,  Staff Sgt. Wellington C. Brown, Hershey; nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Sobieski and Florence Koloc.
