John M. Rovinsky, 88, of Peckville, died Sunday evening March 26, 2017 at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton.  He is survived by his wife the former, Sophie Staleny.  They had been married for 65 years.

 

Born in Peckville, he was the son of the late John and Sophie Savitsky Rovinsky and he was a member of St. Mary’s Visitation Church, Dickson City.  He was a graduate of Blakely High School and he also attended the University of Scranton.  Prior to retirement he was employed as a warehouseman at RCA-Thomson Consumer Products.

 

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother who in his younger years he was an excellent baseball pitcher.  He turned down an offer to play with the Boston Red Sox.  He served with the US Army Reserve and he was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies.  He will be deeply missed.

 

Surviving is a son, Atty. John Rovinsky and wife, Paula Gannon, Ocean Springs, MS; grandchildren, Michael Rovinsky, Cleveland, TN and Katharine Rovinsky and husband, Abdella Aitaddi; a brother, William Rovinsky and wife, Mary Lou, Scott Twp.; nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Rovinsky; sisters, Sophie Gavlinski, Ann Pietrewicz, Josephine Olshefski, Helen Syp and infant sister, Mary Rovinsky.
