James Patrick Dermody of Blakely died on Friday morning, September 2, 2022, at Regional Hospital of Scranton. Jimmy was born on November 11, 1946, in Scranton. He was the son of the late Edward and Jane Carroll Dermody. He attended Dunmore High School and was a graduate of Bloomsburg University. He worked in many Human Resources positions for various companies and in various states throughout his career. However, he would return to the Scranton area and work as a Human Resources specialist for the Albright Children’s Library of Scranton – a position that perfectly synthesized his professional skills with his avid love for reading. Known by many as “Poppy,” Jimmy found his greatest joy in golfing with his brothers, spending time with his grandchildren, and attending his grandchildren’s school, sporting, musical, and scouting events.

Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Kelly Vituszynski, and Kelly’s husband Steven, of Dickson City; son Kevin Dermody and Kevin’s wife Mindy of Washington, D.C.; grandchildren Joshua, Jacob, Emmaline, Elijah, and Anna; brothers Edward, Michael, and John. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gerard.

The family would like to thank the staff at Regional Hospital of Scranton for their comfort and compassion during James’ final days.

A blessing service will be held Wednesday morning, September 7th, at 10am at the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home, Inc., 601 Dundaff St. Dickson City.  Inurnment Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.  For directions or to leave an online condolence, please visit the funeral home website.
