Irene Ochal, aka “Kiddo”, 80, of Peckville, died Tuesday evening June 16, 2015 at home surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter F. “Smeg” Ochal, who died May 20, 2011.

Born in Dickson City, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Mary Mientek Malinowski and she was a parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Peckville. She was educated at St. Mary’s Parochial School and Dickson City High School. As a young girl she was employed by the Schull’s Sewing Machine Co., Dickson City.

In 1962, Irene and her family moved to Piscataway, NJ were she resided for 50 years. She was a long time parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Piscataway, NJ. For 20 years she worked as a machine operator at Royal Apex in Plainfield, NJ. Prior to retirement she was a Probation Officer with the Middlesex County Probation Department for 10 years.

Irene enjoyed going to the casino with her brother in law Lenny Ochal, and the Alaskan Cruise and Las Vegas trips with Elaine and Junior Santarelli. She also enjoyed being a child care taker for over 10 years to 9 special little children. Irene was received and respected as the Matriarch of the family. Her family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Tracey Gilarde, Mauri Conforti, and Personal Home Health Care (PHHC) especially Beth.

Surviving is a son, Mark Ochal, Peckville; daughters, Christine Cryan and husband John, Pittstown, NJ., and Sandra Spencer and husband Michael, Olyphant; five grandchildren, John lll, Brielle and Robert Cryan and Arthur W., and Bethany Spencer; a brother, Alfred Malinowski, Dickson City and a sister, Marion Shefchick, Blakely; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Ceil Goldyn and Jean Besho and brothers, John and Teddy Malinowski.

The funeral will be Monday June 22, 2015 at 9 a.m. from the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home, Inc. 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City, with mass at 9:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Peckville. Interment, St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dickson City.
