The funeral with military honors will be Saturday July 29, 2017 in the Wyoming Presbyterian Church, corner of Wyoming Ave. and Institute St., Wyoming;  with services by Rev. Jim Thyren at 11 a.m. Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the church.  Interment will be in the Hughestown Cemetery.  Arrangements Frank T. Fern Edna Klaproth, 96, of Pittston, died Wednesday July 19, 2017 at the VA Medical Center, Wilkes Barre.

 

Born in Pittston, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Audrey Woods Klaproth.  She was a 1938 graduate of Hughestown High School, she received a pharmacy certificate from I.C.S. and she graduated with a Nursing degree from Nesbitt Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1942.  She served as a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the US Navy Nurse Corps for 4 years during WW II, serving at Portsmouth, VA, Philadelphia, PA, Oakland, CA and Bremerton, WA.  Fern was a charter member of the Women’s Memorial, Washington, DC.

 

After leaving the Navy she was employed as an RN for 36 years at the Montgomery Hospital, Norristown, PA.  Upon retirement in 1983 she returned to the Pittston area.

 

She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, West Pittston, a member of the Women’s Association, she served on the Church board of Deacons and the Board of Trustees.  She taught at the West Pittston Vacation Bible School for several years and she served as a hospice St. John volunteer for 14 years.  Fern was a member of the Pittston Senior Center and she served as a Dietary volunteer.

 

Surviving is a sister in law, Dorothy Klaproth; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by brothers, James, Donald and Theodore Klaproth; and sisters, Margaret Miller and Grace Wilson;  nephews, Donald and Kody Klaproth and a niece, Melinda Laboskie.
