The funeral will be Friday at 12 noon from the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home, Inc., 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City with mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. in Corpus Christi Church, Montdale.  Entombment will be at Glenwood Mausoleum, Morgan Highway.  Friends may call Thursday 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.    In lieu of flowers donations may be made to K of C Council #12573 C/O 453 Hickory Ridge Road, Greenfield Twp., PA 18407.  For directions or to leave an online condolence visit the funeral home website.

Dr. George J. Hallesky, EdD, Scott Twp., died Sunday January 20, 2019 upon arrival at Moses Taylor Hospital Scranton, after being stricken ill at home while clearing his driveway of snow.  He is survived by his wife JoAnn Boyko Romano Hallesky.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late George and Elizabeth Lagvanec Hallesky, and he was an active member of St. John Vianney Parish at Corpus Christi Church, Montdale.  He was a graduate of Scott High School, Keystone College, and he received a BS degree in English from St. Bonaventure University, a Master’s Degree in English from Marywood University, and a doctorate in English from Temple University.  He was a professor of English at Johnson College for 45 years and he coauthored two books, Sentence Analysis, and Technical Writing That Works.  He was also a self-employed general contractor, and he was a former Scott Twp.  Supervisor.

He was member of Knights of Columbus council # 12573, Montdale since 1971, and he became Grand Knight in 2001.  He was an Honored Lifetime Member of the United Who’s Who.

He was a life time member of the Scott Twp. Historical Society, and a former member of the Scott Twp. Lions Club, Associate Ambassador of the North Eastern Cancer Institute Spirit of Hope.

Dr. Hallesky was a highly respected distinguished man among his students, peers, and community.  He was a man known to lend a helping hand to his students in need of extra time.   George was a tissue donor, and he will be greatly missed.

Surviving is a sister, Marie Hallesky, Jermyn, and a brother, Robert Hallesky and wife, Arlene, Factoryville; a nephew, Rob Hallesky, Factoryville; brother & sister in law, Tony and Marlene A. Pica, East Mountain; nephews, Ryan Pica, Jason Pica and wife, Mara, all of East Mountain, and Brian Boyko, Hanover Twp., David Boyko, and wife, Krissy, N. Carolina; nieces, Alicia Pica, Scranton, and Jessica Boyko, Hanover Twp.; grand nephews, Noah, and Tyler Boyko; grand niece, Lily Boyko all of N. Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his late  wife, Shirley Leitch.
