Cathy Spegar Laniewski, 58, of Scott Twp., died peacefully on Thursday, October 7, 2021, surrounded by her family at Geisinger CMC Hospital, Scranton of complications of Celiac Disease.  She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Gary Laniewski.

Born in Peckville, she was the daughter of William and MaryAnn Pietrewicz Spegar, and she was a member of St. Mary’s Visitation Church, Dickson City.  She was a graduate of Valley View High School, class of 1981, where she was an outstanding softball pitcher who took her team to the 1981 Championship.  After high school, she worked as a cook at various restaurants thru throughout the valley, and she known for her delicious soups.  Cathy loved the outdoors and picking mushrooms when in season, and fortunately, she got out one last time to do so.  Cathy loved to decorate for the holidays, especially the fourth of July and Christmas.  She was a New York Giants fan and she loved NASCAR.  Cathy loved her family and her dog Miah, and she gave her all to them.

Cathy’s family would like to offer a special thank you to the I.R. Department at Geisinger CMC for their help thru her difficult time, and Dr. Cynthia Oleski and the Geisinger CMC ICU staff.
