Capt. Walter A. Hoffman, retired Scranton Fire Department, died Wednesday November 14, 2018 at Green Ridge Nursing Facility, Scranton.  He is survived by his wife of 65 years the former, Jean Shumaker.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Walter and Edith Dolphin Hoffman, and he was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Scranton.  He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, and he attended fire school at Rutger’s University. He retired with the rank of Captain from the Scranton Fire Department.  He served with the US Navy during the Korean War, and he was a member of American Legion Post 665, Dickson City, and the Echo Rod and Gun Club.

Walter was a loving and caring husband, father and friend to many.  He was the life of the party sharing jokes, and humorous remarks.  He loved fishing in New York state and Canada and hunting locally.  His favorite saying was “Are you behaving”.  He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Surviving is a son, Walter F. Hoffman, Scranton; sisters, Shirley Frantz, Madisonville, and Helen Clabough, Scranton; nieces and nephews.
