Halenda , William Sr. . Obituary


William ďChiefĒ Halenda, 80, of Dickson City went to be with his heavenly father on November 25, 2014. He is survived by his wife the former Lorraine Perek. They had been married 55 years in July.

Born in Dickson City, he was the son of the late Michael Sr. and Genievieve Kasperowski Halenda and a devout catholic he was a member of St. Adalbertís PNCC, Dickson City and a member of its Y.M.S. of R. Prior to retirement he was a member and trustee of Holy Trinity PNCC in Linden, NJ. He was a graduate of Dickson City High School class of 1952 and he was a professional truck driver for over 36 years for Tose-Fowler and Yellow Freight in New Jersey. He was a member of teamsters local 641. He served with the US Navy during the Korean War on the battleship USS Harwood.

Chief was a member of the American Legion Post 665, Dickson City were he served as commander for 8 years and he served on the board of directors and the monument committee. He was also a of the Dickson City Veterans Honor Guard and he was delegate of the American Legion District 11 and was named commander of the year in 2000. He was also a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7251 of Throop and a member of the Governorís Club.

Billy was a member of the Kingsbury Lodge F & AM Olyphant. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and he also enjoyed watching football games especially the Minnesota Vikings, Penn State Nittnay Lions and his grandsons Hanover Mini- Hawks. He loved to travel, his favorite places were Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Florida and Island Cruises.

Chief was a strong hard working man who will be deeply missed by his family, friends and those who knew him.

Surviving is a son, William Halenda Jr., Dickson City, grandson, Zachary; a brother in law, Gene Perek; aunts, nieces, nephews, great nephews, aunts and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Halenda.

The funeral with military honors will be Saturday at 9:30 from the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home, Inc. , 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City with mass at 10 a.m. in St. Adalbertís PNCC, Dickson City. A Y.M.S. of R. prayer service will be Friday at 7 p.m.
